Q: What do I need to bring with me?
A: If it’s a desktop then just the computer itself – no disks, thumb drives, cables or anything else. If it’s a laptop make sure you bring the power adapter.
Q: What’s the turnaround time?
A: On average 2 to 3 days. A little longer for hardware related issues, and a little shorter for quick fixes like tuneups. If you need something done ASAP ask about our emergency service.
Q: What does it cost for you to look at it?
A: In-store diagnostics are free. Bring the computer in, and we’ll tell you what’s wrong and how much it’ll cost to fix. If it’s too much, feel free to pick it up at no charge. The one exception is for internal laptop diagnostics — situations where we have to take it apart to get a diagnostic (i.e. liquid spills, power issues, etc) — in those cases there is an internal laptop diagnostic fee of $55, which will be applied to the cost of the repair if the computer is fixable.
Q: What are your business hours?
A: Monday thru Saturday 10am to 6pm (closed Sundays). Due to on-site work there may be times when we are out of the office during normal business hours. If this occurs please leave a voicemail or send an email to support@wickfordcomputer.com and we’ll get back to you as quickly as possible.

Q: Where are my files?
A: If data was backed up, then unless otherwise noted, your files will be in a folder on your desktop (usually called “data.old” or with your name on it). The best way to find files within this folder is to open it up and then run a search (left sidebar on XP, top right hand corner on 7/Vista). You can search by file name or type. If you prefer to browse for files then the best place to start is either “Users” or “Documents and Settings” which can usually be found right inside the main data folder. Once in there, click on your name, then go to “my documents”.
Q: How do I get my favorites back?
A: Check inside your data folder on the desktop. Go into either “users” or “documents and settings”, and then find your username. Once inside look for a starred folder “favorites”. Go inside and hit Ctrl-A. Now either drag or copy them into your new favorites folder (which you can get to by hitting Start→ My Computer→ C: → Documents & Settings (or “Users” in Vista) —> Your Username —> Favorites
Q: I can’t get on internet/wireless
A: Hardwired internet connections should work fine on their own. If you’re plugging the computer in directly and it’s not getting a signal please call us at 667-7889. Wireless connections will most likely have to be re-entered so dig up your password if you have it written down someplace. If you don’t know it try checking the side of your router for a little white sticker (verizon only). The WEP Key is usually printed there.
Q: Where are my desktop icons?
A: If your computer was “reloaded”, that means windows was re-installed. Unfortunately, programs and settings cannot be saved. Any custom, licensed software will have to be re-installed using the original discs, and then your data file will have to be reloaded into it (only applicable for database oriented software like MS Money, quicken, etc).
